WHO

Time to toss away those plastic figurines and give your kids something earthy to adore with the Cheekeyes fresh 'n fun wooden playsets. The clean sleek lines of Cheekeyes' handmade animals are beautiful to touch and behold, with the lovely grain of polished rubberwood enlivened by a funky dash of colour.

WHERE

To get the high-level finish we want for our Cheekeyes, all Cheekeyes are handmade by skilled craftsman from our supplier in South-Asia for many hours of playtime use across the globe.

WHAT

Our wooden toys are made from sustainable and high quality wood that is collected from rubberwood plantations. A rubber tree produces a commercially valuable sap, commonly known as latex. After around 25 years, a rubber tree will start to produce less latex. These older trees are harvested so that new rubber trees can be planted. We think it's worth it to take extra measures to ensure our process is neither wasteful nor destructive.

FOR WHOM

Cheekeyes wooden figures are made large and chunky especially so that infants over the age of three (3) can have worry-free fun with them, because when it comes to your kids, we're looking out for them too. We must acknowledge, however, that there is no upper age limit for Cheekeyes wooden figures - even adults can't resist falling to the fun and charm of these unique wooden figures.

SAFETY

We know you're concerned about safety first, and so Cheekeyes uses safe, non-toxic paints in all our products. Because the Cheekeyes are only partially painted, the grain of the wood is left visible so that its full character is retained for you and your child to enjoy. Cheekeyes wooden figures conform to the European Directives for Toy Safety (EN-71), which includes testing to pass lead content inspections and other banned elements.

ENVIRONMENT

Environmental ideologies brought fruit to the creation of Cheekeyes. Why cover wood with paint when wood in itself has so much to offer? We looked for a way to provide children with the touch and feel of something natural, combined with lively colours to attract and maintain their attention. And that is the story of why Cheekeyes look the way they do.

We must be honest and open with our customers by telling you that, though the Cheekeyes are made from recycled wood, there is always something to be done to increase sustainability. Here at Cheekeyes we are striving to do what is best for both our planet's future and customer satisfaction. While our wood comes from plantations and no new wild trees are cut down to produce them, it is a fact that there used to be jungle where the plantation now lies. We think it is very important not to close our eyes to the state of industry and business, and not to accept it as just 'a fact of life'. Therefore, we at Cheekeyes here support foundations that spread awareness and seek a balance between humankind's footprint and nature's resources.

ABOUT US

We can't neglect telling you a little about ourselves, the people behind the project. Cheekeyes is the brainchild of a small Dutch company called STUDIO SPOON, run by Max, Lisette and Roger. We do this for fun, and not for a living. Lisette and Roger both have a degree in Industrial Design, while Max takes care of bills, invoices and the rest of the financial administration.
